FAQ

What is "Specialty Grade" Coffee?

Specialty grade coffee refers to high-quality, fully traceable beans that achieve a score of 80 or above on a 100-point scale during professional evaluation. These assessments are conducted by certified tasters known as Q Graders.

Only about 5–10% of the world’s coffee meets this standard. To qualify, the beans must be virtually free of primary defects, with only a small allowance for minor imperfections in a 350-gram sample. They are also judged on key sensory qualities such as acidity, body, aroma, and overall flavor profile.

These standards are established by the Specialty Coffee Association, ensuring consistency and quality across the industry.

What sets specialty coffee apart from commercial-grade coffee is its cleaner taste, higher attention to detail, and a strong emphasis on craftsmanship at every stage—from cultivation and harvesting to processing and brewing.

What is "Artisan" tea?

Artisan tea refers to high-quality tea that’s carefully crafted in small batches with a focus on flavor, origin, and traditional techniques.

Here’s what that means in simple terms:

  • Handcrafted quality – Often picked and processed by skilled growers, not mass-produced
  • Better ingredients – Made from whole tea leaves (not dust or powder like many tea bags)
  • Unique flavors – You’ll taste more natural notes like floral, fruity, earthy, or sweet
  • Sourced with care – Comes from specific regions known for tea growing
  • Small-batch production – More attention to detail from farm to cup

Think of artisan tea like the tea version of specialty coffee—it’s all about quality, craftsmanship, and better taste.

What type of coffee (Grind) should I order?

Whole Bean

Best for: Any brewing method (if you have a grinder)

Whole beans are unground coffee. This is the freshest option because you grind it right before brewing.

👉 Choose this if you have a grinder at home and want the best flavor.

Coarse Grind

Texture: Chunky, like sea salt

Best for: French press, cold brew

Coarse grounds steep slowly in water, which prevents over-extraction and bitterness.

👉 Choose this if you use a French press or make cold brew.

Standard Grind (Medium)

Texture: Similar to regular sand

Best for: drip coffee maker, pour-over

This is the most common grind and works well for everyday coffee makers.

👉 Choose this if you have a standard coffee machine or pour-over setup.

Espresso Grind (Fine)

Texture: Very fine, like sugar or powder

Best for: espresso machine

Fine grounds allow high-pressure water to extract rich, concentrated flavor quickly.

👉 Choose this if you make espresso or drinks like lattes and cappuccinos.

Quick cheat sheet:

  • No grinder? → Pick a grind that matches your machine
  • Have a grinder? → Go with whole bean for maximum freshness
  • Not sure? → Standard grind is the safest choice for most homes
